Residents of Rupanyup, Warracknabeal and other locations were impacted by the torrential rainfall last week, with some businesses forced to close, while others were desperately calling in support from friends and family to help reduce damage to their property.
Many residents said that due to drainage systems, flooding happens far too often when the rain comes.
Yarriambiack Shire Council's chief executive Jessie Homes said they are addressing the concerns of the community.

"This rain event was extreme and we're constantly working towards improving the infrastructure of our communities," Ms Holmes said.
"People who want to discuss the future infrastructure of their town are encouraged to attend our scheduled Community Engagement Sessions happening throughout February and March."
In Rupanyup, works continue to improve drainage after the downpour last week.
Minor drainage works were completed during last week's rain event, with more works and cleaning of stormwater pipes to be programmed in the future.
Council's director of assets and operations Michael Evans said there were some minor drainage works carried out during the event.
"Drains that carry a large portion of the town's storm water away out to the north-east side of town were improved, helping the water drain rapidly," Mr Evans said.
"The channel leading out to the dams on the east side of town will need some attention and Council will look at some programmed works in the areas that require repair.
"Council will be looking at the design of the weir gate in the creek and the pipe work travelling under Emmett's to make sure there is capacity for the town drainage to allow the water to drain properly.
"Future levels of the township's existing drainage are likely to be surveyed moving forward," the director of assets and operations concluded.
There is a severe weather warning for Friday, February 5, with expected thunderstorms to bring heavy rain and damaging winds.
